Taking proper care of your board will prolong its life and keep it looking good for longer. Here are a couple of tips on taking care of your board in the best possible way.
Rigging surface and handling
Always try to set up your board on a non-abrasive surface to protect your board as much as possible. Use a board cover when the board is not in use.
Damage
Check your board for dings and damage regularly. If the board is damaged, then repair it before sailing on it.
Parts
Make sure you use the correct screws and tools which come with the board or parts with and equivalent specification and quality.
Footstraps
Keep your footstrap screws tightened at all times. Check them regularly to make sure they haven’t worked themselves loose. Use a screwdriver with PH3 head. The first time screwing the straps on the board it is advised to use a tiny bit of marine grease.
UV and sun heat
Always keep your board protected from the sun when not in use. If left for too long under the sun, the colors of your board could fade over time and your board overheats which could result in a reduced lifetime. This is also applicable if you leave it in a car in the sun which may heat up to extreme high temperatures.
Storage
Do not store your board wet in a bag. Dry your board to prevent paint blisters. Avoid unnecessary exposure to UV. Store the board in a vertical rack, but if horizontally, always keep the deck down.
Foil and fin connection
Make sure the foil or fin fits correctly in the box and the box is without damage inside and outside. Use appropriate bolts and replace them when necessary. Especially when using foils, replace the bolts regularly and use the appropriate washers with large surface and without edges which may damage the box. Ideally use the latest carbon washers which are strong and make sure the washer is fitting correctly in the oval space, otherwise make sure to reduce the washer size.

Vent plug
All boards feature a “Gore-Tex” air vent which regulates the internal pressure of the board automatically. There is no need to open or tighten it before sailing or flight. Do not try to adjust it.
Do a regular check to make sure the air vent base is tightened: Tighten the valve with the HEX socket (16mm). Apply force gently by hand or at a torque value of maximum 0.7Nm +-0.1Nm. Do not overtighten.
!! Do a regular check to make sure the air vent base is working
!! Replace the air vent at least every 2 years
!! Do not use any ratchet or handle – use only the socket piece
Check if the Gore-Tex air vent is working
- The board needs to be at room temperature (in the shade / or inside)
- Place some soapy water around the mounted valve.
- Place the board in the sun.
- Bubbles should start to form within short a time.
Replacing the Gore-Tex air vent
- Get a HEX socket size 16mm.
- Warning don’t use any ratchet or handle – USE ONLY THE SOCKET PIECE.
- Remove existing Gore-Tex air vent.
- Clean the inside of the board thread – make sure there is no silicon left.
- On the new air vent valve, add a tiny bit of clear silicon around the thread. Use gloves to apply. Remove any extra silicon.
- Install the valve in the board manually.
- Tighten the valve with the HEX socket (16mm). Apply force gently by hand or at a torque value of maximum 0.7Nm +-0.1Nm. Do not overtighten.
